Last full week before break!

This week was very busy! We started learning about another exciting arctic animal the polar bear! In math we practiced symmetry by creating snowflakes that demonstrated 2 sides of a shape that are the same. And who can forget our amazing and educational trip to the children's museum in Delray Beach!? There we saw beautiful marine paintings and sculptures using many different types of mediums. Our guide helped us discover new ways artists capture the majestic marine world. This trip was an excellent start to our upcoming interdisciplinary science unit-Junior Oceanographers! Have a great weekend!!

Great week!!

This week we had a great time exploring more about penguins using a webquest and a super video Growing up Penguin. We also practiced our shapes during math using our geoboards. Our 5 th grade reading buddies came for a visit and we read a great story about Tacky the Penguin and learned how to write a haiku. We use facts to create our own poems to hang on the hallway bulletin board. We also had a wonderful time reversing holiday songs in music and at our winter concert. During fun Friday we practiced balance using hundreds blocks!

Fall Forward!

This week we finished up our unit on spiders by taking a web walk around campus. We saw at least 8 spider webs! Then we explored why spiders don't stick to their own webs and how they create them by creating our own...

We also created webs out of glue and colored them with chalk.

Here are our pictures from Halloween week where we made paper pumpkins, and estimated how many seeds were in our class pumpkin.

This week we had a great time reading with our 5th grade reading buddies!

It's almost time for Trick or Treat!

This week was fun filled learning and busy with activities and projects! We read great stories about perspective and created kites just like the ones from Henry and the Kite Dragon. Then we focused on what it means to be a buddy and not a bully. Our group lesson with K and 2nd was a great success and we spread the word about how to be a good friend! We also continued on our quest to find out what makes insects and arachnids different and unique. Tune in next week when we take a web walk around school and create our own classroom web!

We all took the pledge to be buddies!!

Check us out in our cool Halloween masks!!!

Happy Friday!

Here we are working hard in our reading groups on responding activities.

In Social Studies this week we learned about the four seasons and created charts labeling them with examples of things we like to do during each season!
Today we celebrated breast cancer awareness month by dressing down and donating money to a great cause!

We also worked in groups to practice our map skills.

We also love working in our listening center during reading groups.
October is dental health month and Kindergarten and 1st grade got a fun visit from a local dentist where we learned all about ways we can care for our teeth. Then we watched a Sid the Science Kid episode on our pearly whites and created fun mobiles to remind us to brush, floss and rinse every day!
